What are environmental allergies?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Environmental allergies occur when the immune system overreacts to substances in the environment that are typically harmless\u2014substances known as allergens.<\/p>\n

Among the most common are:<\/p>\n

– Pollens from trees, grasses, and other plants;<\/p>\n

– Dust mites and storage mites, which can be found in indoor environments and in animal feed;<\/p>\n

– Molds, often associated with damp environments.<\/p>\n

These allergies may manifest at specific times of the year or persist year-round, depending on the allergens involved and the individual sensitivity of each animal.<\/p>\n

What are the most frequent symptoms?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The most characteristic symptom is pruritus, or itching. However, there are other signs we should be aware of:<\/p>\n

– Persistent licking of the paws;<\/p>\n

– Redness of the skin, especially on the paws, ears, armpits, and belly;<\/p>\n

– Recurrent ear infections;<\/p>\n

– Scratching oneself frequently;<\/p>\n

– Hair loss in specific areas;<\/p>\n

– Appearance of small lesions, pimples, or scabs.<\/p>\n

These symptoms can have various causes, including parasites, infections, and food allergies. Therefore, it is important to consult a veterinarian to identify the source of the problem and determine the most appropriate approach.<\/p>\n

How can a natural diet help?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nutrition plays an important role in maintaining healthy skin and coat. A complete and balanced diet provides proteins, essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals necessary for cell renewal and the normal functioning of the skin barrier.<\/p>\n

It is important to distinguish between environmental allergies and food allergies: changing an animal’s diet will not eliminate reactions to pollen or dust mites. However, proper nutrition can contribute to an animal’s overall health and complement the veterinary approach to managing allergies.<\/p>\n
